It was not until the year 2000 when voters showed support for Indian gaming and approved Proposition 1A that the casino was able to open the current 305,000 square foot building. Once known as the Sycuan Bingo Palace, the property opened its doors in 1983 as a 20,000 square foot gaming facility founded by the Sycuan Band of the Kumeyaay Nation – a group that has inhabited the current San Diego and Imperial Counties longer than the pyramids have been in Egypt. San Diego’s longest continually operational casino, Sycuan, will mark its 32nd year in business this past November.
